Why should attempt to commit suicide be considered a punishable crime? Dont we even own our own life?

Human survival has leaned on cooperative behavior in very strong ways throughout our history. Those unable to contend with their own lives often have little to contribute to the survival or progression of the species youd think thered be state run suicide clinics by now...crimony
